PPL(H)

Attaining your helicopter Private Pilot Licence - PPL(H) - is one of the most satisfying and rewarding things you can achieve. Once you have your licence you can take family and friends sightseeing or away for the weekend.
A private pilot must not fly for reward, however should you wish to make flying your career, a Private Pilot Licence is the first step towards a Commercial Pilot Licence and the Air Transport Pilot Licence.

To achieve your PPL(H) you will have to meet these minimum regulatory requirements

45 flying hours in a helicopter to include at least:
25hrs Dual with an Instructor.
5hrs "Instrument Flying" with an Instructor.
10hrs supervised “Solo” flying, 5hrs of which must be “cross country” with at least one flight of 100 nautical miles (or more),  “landing away” at two different airfields.

Complete "Ground School" examinations in:

Air Law & Operational Procedures
Meteorology
Human Performance & Limitations
Navigation & Radio Aids
Flight Performance & Planning
Principles of Flight
Communications

Note: These examinations are in multiple choice format and must all be completed within 18months of the first exam taken. They then remain valid for the granting of a JAR-FCL PPL(H) for 24 months after completion.

Radio Licence (FRTOL): Radio communication in aviation is crucial and although it is a separate licence to your PPL radio communication forms part of the PPL syllabus.
The radio, or RT as it is known, licence is separate to the PPL(H) application.
Through instruction and practical application you will be trained to apply correct RT procedures during your training. Then you will take a practical test to achieve your RT licence.

Medical: You will need to get a JAR Class 2 medical as a minimum. This can be done at any CAA approved General Practitioner. We can provide you a list of CAA GP's in your area.
